On the second day the Scots attack, trapping the English between the two streams. Edward pushes some archers onto the left flank of the Scottish line, but the bowmen are  scattered by the brilliant cavalry charge of Keith's light horse.

With the threat from the archers gone, Bruce throws his own division into the battle,  Edward II leaves the field, the small folk come down from Coxtet hill, the English break, and Keith's horsemen pursue the fleeing English.

...for as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
Declaration of Arbroath 1320
